Bosque County Sheriff Tim Gage told CNN at least 20 homes were destroyed, and many others were damaged. A marina was also struck by the twister.

Sheriff Gage said the tornado hit land around 6:15 p.m., first striking a small neighborhood of large homes. Roofs were ripped off several of the homes in that area. The tornado continued across an open field and then struck a second neighborhood.

One man killed inside leveled home

The second area suffered more severe damage. At least 12 homes were completely destroyed. One man was killed and a woman seriously injured inside one of the homes that was leveled.

The woman was flown by medical helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. At least five others were treated for minor injuries.

The twister then jumped a cove and tore through a third neighborhood. At least eight homes were destroyed in that section, and others were heavily damaged. The tornado also struck a marina, damaging a building and moving boat docks.

Officials said everyone in the community has now been accounted for.

Sheriff Gage said residents in the affected areas were allowed to stay until nightfall. The area was then sealed off and will remain under guard overnight. Residents will be allowed to return in the morning.

The tornado was part of a line of severe weather that stretched from Michigan to Texas on Friday night.

Other tornadoes were reported in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
