THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Want to update you now on a story out of Charlotte, North Carolina we've been tracking now for two hour's time. About 8:30 a.m. local time, a gunman in fatigues entered a building, a medical building, there in Charlotte, North Carolina and, according to reports, is now holding two people hostage. The Associated Press is saying one of the hostages is his wife. Another person is an employee of the medical center.
Craig Allen with the local police department now with us by telephone.
Craig, what can you add to this report that we're getting right now?
CRAIG ALLEN, CHARLOTTE-MECKLENBURG POLICE: Yes, Bill. A little while ago, probably about 9:45 or so, the gunman released one employee. He released one of his hostages who was an employee of the business, and now it's just he and his wife that are on that particular floor along with SWAT members and negotiaters.
HEMMER: Do you know if the hostages made -- or rather, the man in fatigues, rather, has made any demands at this time?
ALLEN: No, I do not. They are currently negotiating with him.
HEMMER: Craig, what about a motive in this?
ALLEN: Not aware of any motive at this time.
HEMMER: Any injuries out of this? I know the bottom nine floors have been evacuated. Have there be any injuries, number one? And number two, have you gotten everybody out so you think the building, indeed, is safe, or not?
ALLEN: Yes, there has not been any injuries and the building is evacuated.
HEMMER: This happened about two hours ago. What's happening thus far with the police department and their response?
ALLEN: Thus far, we're negotiating with the suspect and just trying to end it peacefully.
HEMMER: Can you categorize negotiations at this point with the contact you've had with the man?
ALLEN: No, I cannot, not at this time.
HEMMER: And the age group for the man -- about, roughly...?
ALLEN: I'm not sure of that. That hasn't been released yet.
HEMMER: OK, Craig Allen, local police department there as we watch that situation in Charlotte, North Carolina. More developments as we get them right here on CNN.
