LOU WATERS, CNN ANCHOR: We now have a pretty good handle on what we've been reporting to you over the past hour or so, a shooting outside a middle school in New Orleans, in which two students were shot, at least one is in critical condition. The other reported stable.
Witnesses report that two children got into a fight. They say one of them left a school courtyard and returned with a gun. A student says the wounded child picked up the gun when the shooter dropped it, and then shot the shooter.
Just moments ago, Al Davis, who is the CEO of New Orleans schools, talked about what happens now.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
AL DAVIS, CEO, NEW ORLEANS SCHOOLS: Security was in fact on campus. We did in fact have SRO, roving SRO. I am going to talk to Chief Pennington regarding some strategies we are going to put in place here to heighten the sense of security and awareness. And we have not determined the total extent of those. But we are, in fact, going to be talking to him within the next couple three days regarding that.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
WATERS: So school will be closed and worried parents now are being allowed to sign their children out of school, The story seems to be over. Two children shot, they were involved in a fight. Apparently one shot the other, and then the other picked up the dropped pistol and shot the shooter.
That's as the story goes right now. One is in critical condition. One in stable condition. We will have more on the story as soon as it plays out.
