Veteran FBI Agent Accused of Spying

Aired February 20, 2001 - 10:29 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: Federal investigators say Robert Philip Hanssen is a 27-year veteran of the FBI and spent almost all of his tenure working for the agency's counterterrorism operations. That means his mission was to catch spies. Hanssen is accused of working for Russia and the Soviet Union for the past 15 years.

We're hoping to get more information in an FBI news conference, and it's now scheduled for 12:45 Eastern.
