MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: We begin this morning in Houston, Texas, where the rain just won't stop and the flood waters are on the rise. It's been almost a week-long deluge. Some areas recorded nearly a foot of rain just yesterday.

Reporter Brendan Keith (ph) of CNN affiliate KPRC in Houston has more for us.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BRENDAN KEITH, KPRC REPORTER (voice-over): A car completely submerged under nearly nine feet of water, and it's not alone. A van and yet another car were caught in the rapidly rising flood waters.

(on camera): Are you amazed you were able to get out there without getting killed?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

KEITH (voice-over): Cross Timbers not only became a river, it's a whitewater rapid, forcing stranded motorists to swim to safety.

(on camera): In this case, the manhole cover has come right off because the drains are overwhelmed. Now the water that was in the drain is back out on the street.

(voice-over): Even fire trucks had a hard time plowing through the deep water. They have excellent drains in this neighborhood, so residents aren't used to flooding. But now it's getting dangerously close to their doorstep.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I came up the other night -- the night before last, or last night when it rained.

KEITH (on camera): When's it going to stop?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know, I wonder when. I'll be glad when it do.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I've never seen it come that far. It usually gets to the sidewalk and stop, but this time it came up to the trees.

(END VIDEOTAPE) O'BRIEN: That report from Brendan Keith of our affiliate KPRC in Houston.
