Atlanta Crane Standoff Ends in Hanging Death

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: In other news today, a 21-hour standoff with a man atop a crane has come to a gruesome end. Police and psychiatrists said they tried to talk 23-year-old Michael Kelly down from the tower, but they said during the night, he stepped off the crane and hanged himself.

The ordeal started Thursday at a construction site here in Atlanta. Police, at first, thought the man was armed and sent workers home uncertain of his intentions.
