KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: The congressman and the intern apparently were having an affair after all. That's the inside scoop from our sources in Washington after Congressman Gary Condit's latest meeting with police, who are investigating the disappearance of intern Chandra Levy. CNN's Bob Franken joins us now from Washington with more of the details -- hi, Bob.

BOB FRANKEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning. And of course this has always been about the search for Chandra Levy but a big sideshow has been the continuous speculation and reporting about a relationship, a romantic relationship between Congressman Condit and Chandra Levy, the 24-year-old intern who disappeared over nine weeks ago. Condit, through his spokespeople until recently, has adamantly denied there was a romantic relationship. But in a third police interview, the police insisted that he face the question was there a romantic relationship? His lawyer did not object and Condit, according to police sources, told the investigators Friday night yes, there was a romantic relationship.

Now, the police say the only reason they wanted to know about that is to try and have some insight into the mind set of Chandra Levy, to try and determine exactly what happened to her.

TERRANCE GAINER, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT CHIEF OF POLICE: We still have to explore whether Ms. Levy committed suicide, as remote as that may be, because of the passage right now. We have to explore whether she was the victim of a street crime. We have to explore whether she went off on her own and secluded herself or we have to explore the possibility that maybe she's injured or incapacitated is a street person someplace and doesn't know who or where she's at.

That has really been consistent through this whole thing, and every track that we have taken has added something to that or taken away something from that. The conversation with the congressman and his wife, again, is all part of that investigative process.

FRANKEN: And, Kyra, the assistant police chief, Terry Gainer, said that Condit seemed relieved that he had this part of the investigation behind him -- Kyra? PHILLIPS: Bob, police officers retrieved Chandra Levy's medical records. What do they hope to find out through those or did they discover anything?

FRANKEN: Well, there are medical records, there are financial records, computer records, bank records and the like. As for the medical records, there's a question everyone has been asking, which is did they show that Chandra Levy was pregnant? I've been told by my politics sources there is "no indication" of that.

PHILLIPS: Bob Franken with the latest from Washington, thanks so much.
