BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: We have just learned three people are dead tonight following a shooting at a park in North St. Louis, that's in Missouri. A boy was among those shot, said to be 11-years old.

With us on the phone now, St. Louis police chief Joe Mokwa. Chief, can you hear me OK?

CHIEF JOE MOKWA, ST. LOUIS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Yes, I can.

HEMMER: We are reporting three dead, is that right?

MOKWA: That's correct.

HEMMER: Can you tell us what happened, sir?

MOKWA: A young 10-year-old child was playing baseball at a local park, his mother was in her car watching the game. Her estranged boyfriend or husband arrived, subsequently he shot the mother in the car and then he went to the son and shot the son several times. Fled the scene.

The son was dead on the scene and mother died almost later at an area hospital. And the father was a fugitive for probably 30 minutes, and we just discovered him on the side of a highway parked in his automobile, And he's apparently deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

HEMMER: No other injuries there?

MOKWA: No, sir.

HEMMER: Tragic story in Northern St. Louis. Chief Joe Mokwa on the phone with us. Again, three dead tonight, clearly a case of domestic dispute, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Chief, thanks for clearing things up with us here.
