DONNA KELLEY, CNN ANCHOR: One day after a protester was shot to death in Genoa, Italy, police squared off against protesters for a second day. CNN's Alessio Vinci is there -- Alessio.
ALESSIO VINCI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good evening, Donna. Well, world leaders meeting here in Genoa are saying that they do respect the will of the people to demonstrate peacefully, and this is what the majority of the people who are here -- who came here are want to do, and this is why earlier today, some 150,000 people marched through the streets of Genoa under the generic banner of anti-globalization. Some of them were still visibly angered at the security forces. After that, one of their friends or perhaps one of the anarchists, I should say, was killed by one officer yesterday in clashes with the protesters.
As the marches went on, a group of anarchists, the same kind of people who broke -- who clashed with the police yesterday, broke away from this large peaceful demonstration and started marching toward the police barricades protecting the venue of the G-8 summit, and they started to provoke police by throwing rocks and bottles and by burning some of the empty canisters and empty garbage cans that were along this street. And for a few moments here, there was a very strong battle between the police and the demonstrators who -- the police responding with volley of tear gases, trying to prevent from entering the so-called red zone, that is where the G-8 summit is taking place.
The result of these latest clashes here today is 93 wounded, among them eight policemen. Information also from sources within the security, is that 36 protesters have been arrested. Back to you, Donna.
KELLEY: All right, Alessio Vinci there in Italy. Thanks very much.
