Man Deliberately Crashes Small Plane into His House

NATALIE ALLEN, CNN ANCHOR: In New Hampshire, investigators say it now looks like a man deliberately crashed a small plane into his house over the weekend. No one was home, but the man was killed.

We get more now from correspondent Sharon Alfonsi from our affiliate WBZ in Boston.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SHARON ALFONSI, WBZ REPORTER (voice-over): Smoke poured from the shell of the home. A raging fire destroyed it after a small plane crashed into it, a crash that shook this exclusive Amherst neighborhood.

MARIE SEROSKI, NEIGHBOR: I heard this plane kept circling and circling, and I thought this is unusual. It doesn't happen -- not here anyway.

ALFONSI: But the plane continued, and Marie Seroski became concerned.

SEROSKI: I opened the window and I literally waved the guy, goodbye, keep going. And then he circled again, and I watched him come back around. This time, I just waved -- just dead, the plane started to bank, and no sputtering or anything. That got my attention.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I heard kind of a pop, and then the house shook a little bit, and that was it.

SEROSKI: FAA sources tell WGZ the plane that crashed was owned by the man who lived in the house. Authorities say his wife, who police kept shielded, was not inside at the time of the crash.

DONALD LISS, N.H. STATE FIRE MARSHAL: There were no injuries on the ground. So we do not believe there's anybody else other than the pilot involved in this incident.

SEROSKI: All I know is that when that engine turned off without any sputtering, I don't know what to say, that's unusual. and no attempt at all to bring himself back up. Just kept going -- aiming I guess what I want to say.

(END VIDEOTAPE) ALLEN: The victim has been identified as Louis Joy. Authorities say his wife obtained a restraining order against him the day before the crash.
