VINCE CELLINI, CNN ANCHOR: Well, from shock to outrage, unbelievable grief, the scenes of rescue and recovery in New York tell stories of heroism and heartbreak.

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: That's right. And at the Pentagon, all out efforts on three fronts -- finding survivors, protecting the nation and seeking out the people behind the terror.

Good morning. It is Thursday, September 13, and I'm Carol Lin at the CNN Center in Atlanta.

CELLINI: And I'm Vince Cellini.

LIN: We have, of course, Vince, affiliates around the country, some 500 affiliates who are helping this network cover this story. And they have captured some images that are stunning and that are touching in so many ways. We're going to share with you some of those images and we're also going to let you listen in on a prayer that a Capitol Hill police officer led at a prayer vigil in the center of the Capitol building, that is, the Rotunda, singing "Amazing Grace."

UNIDENTIFIED POLICE OFFICER (singing): Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see. 'Twas grace that caused my heart to fear and grace my fears relieved. How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares we have already come. 'Twas grace that brought us safe thus far and grace, and grace will lead us home.

LIN: Just some of the sights and sounds as we look at the skyline of New York City that has been changed so dramatically. That is the scene, where the smoke is still rising from the wreckage of the collapse of the twin towers there on Tuesday, and the Pentagon.
