PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: We now turn our attention back to that Greyhound bus crash much earlier this morning.

For the very latest we go to Mike Machak who just filed this report for WSMV.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

MIKE MACHAK, WSMV REPORTER: We have a confirmed number of fatalities from the Tennessee Highway Patrol Department of Safety, at six, but we have got reports that there may be as many as 12 fatalities in this bus accident, this Greyhound bus that went out of control just after 4:00 this morning.

12 fatalities, possibly 32 injured. We've got local, state, and even federal agents out here at scene. If I move away, you can see some of the federal agents with the FBI out here on the scene, working it.

Some developing information that we have not yet confirmed. The driver, who we understand had his throat slit by a passenger, and that is what caused the bus to go out of control; we understand he has gone through surgery at nearby Manchester Hospital, and that he is doing OK. That's a report that we got from the Manchester Hospital, which is the closest hospital to this scene here.

Traffic moving in the eastbound direction of I-24 does continue to move slowly, westbound remains closed off, Holly.

ZAHN: All right. Of course that was Mike Machak reporting for his home station, WSMV. Thank you very much for that report.
