CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Why don't we check and see how business news is going to be shaping up for the day?

LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: David Haffenreffer checking in from his post in New York.

Good morning, David.

LIN: Hi, David.

DAVID HAFFENREFFER, CNN FINANCIAL NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Leon. Good morning, Carol.

Well, if the early indications hold this morning, the markets could open flat to slightly higher for us today. Still though, uncertainty over America's war may weigh on the mood on the Street and investors still have to get past this third quarter earnings season which has been rife with profit warnings and job cuts.

Credit Suisse First Boston just this morning announcing that it will slash 2,000 investment banking jobs after racking up losses in the third quarter. Credit Suisse trades under the ticker symbol CSR on the Big Board.

Borders also warns of a lighter-than-expected third quarter loss. The bookseller, which had a store at the World Trade Center, says sales were hurt by the September 11 attacks. BGP is the ticker to watch there.

Stocks overall ended Monday's session mostly lower but the losses were somewhat restrained. The Dow industrials fell half a percent. The Nasdaq composite was mostly flat. The S&P 500 index lost about nine points.

And that is the latest from the financial news desk here at New York City.
