BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: We are now getting reports that the Indian army fired on Pakistani Military Post 11, according to "The Associated Press," firing across the line there. This breaks a border calm that's been reported to extend the length of about ten months.

All of this is a very critical time, knowing the rhetoric that has been exchanged between these two countries and also knowing now that the secretary of state, Colin Powell, is on the ground in Islamabad, Pakistan. He will meet tomorrow with Pakistan's president and then later, travel on to New Delhi and India to continue his talks there.

But the word we have now is that in that disputed area of Kashmir, firing has been conducted today, the Indian army firing at 11 different Pakistani military posts across the border there.
