LARRY KING, HOST: Tonight, music to stir the soul and heal the heart. Performances by Sting, Kenny Rogers, B.B. King, Maria Carey, Sarah Mclachlan, and many more, all next on a special "LARRY KING WEEKEND".

Thanks for joining us. On thanksgiving we aired a show of just music. It got great response so we decided to do some more of the same. Since the tragic events of September 11, music has expressed emotions we could not put into words. Here are a few examples.

(MUSIC, STING SINGS "FRAGILE")

(MUSIC, SARAH MCLACHLAN SINGS "ANGEL")

(MUSIC, MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER SINGS "LATE FOR YOUR LIFE")

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: U.S. forces are now taking part in the first war of the 21st century. To honor them a song made famous during the last war of the 20th century.

(MUSIC, "GET HERE")

(MUSIC, MARIA CAREY SINGS "HERO")

(MUSIC, KATE SMITH SINGS "GOD BLESS AMERICA)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: Welcome back. 'Tis the holiday season and what would the holidays be without music? Here's the incomparable B.B. King.

(MUSIC, B.B KING SINGS "PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS)

(MUSIC, JEWEL SINGS "O HOLY NIGHT")

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: We've had some great country music stars on the show the past few months but you can't even think country music without humming a Kenny Rogers tune and he joined us live in concert.

(MUSIC, KENNY ROGERS SINGS "HOMELAND") (MUSIC, MARTINA MCBRIDE SINGS "BLESSED")

(MUSIC, DIAMOND RIO SINGS "ONE MORE DAY")

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: Our next performers are extraordinary vocalists. One of them, Andrea Boccelli. He is so good, I don't understand a word that he sings and I still love him.

(MUSIC, ANDREA BOCCELLI SINGS "MELODRAMMA")

(MUSIC, SARAH BRIGHTMAN SINGS "WINTER LIGHT")

(MUSIC, CHARLOTTE CHURCH SINGS "AMAZING GRACE)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: In the aftermath of September 11, we have been closing out our show with performances by some gifted musical artists. Here are a few worth a second listen.

(MUSIC, LIONEL RICHIE SINGS "JUST PUT SOME LOVE IN YOUR HEART")

(MUSIC, GLORIA ESTEFAN SINGS "COMING OUT OF THE DARK")

(MUSIC, CHICAGO SINGS "FEELING STRONGER EVERYDAY")

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KING: There is only one way to end the show, more music. We have heard a lot the past few months about how different we all are. Tonight we thought we'd look at some similarities. Tomorrow night, the first of our two "Year in Review" specials. Til then, good night.

(MUSIC, MAHALIS JACKSON SINGS "WE SHALL OVERCOME")

(MUSIC, U2 SINGS "ONE")
