LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We want to update you on the breaking story that we have coming in to us at the CNN Center. The Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia has now joined the ranks of those who have scenes of school shootings.

We understand now that six people have been shot on this campus. Three of them are dead. One of them is the dean of the college, we understand, according to report from the Associated Press. And there is one other faculty person and one student who have died. We do not know anything else about the condition of the other three who have been shot. From what we understand, they have been taken to Buchanan General Hospital. And the school is in Buchanan County if you're familiar with this Virginia area.

We believe, according to these reports again from the Associated Press that police believe that students there on campus actually apprehended the shooter and that they may have him in custody even as we speak. We are still trying to get some more information on this story for you, and the minute we do get it, we will deliver it to you. But at this point, right now, all we know is that six have been shot and three have died so far at this point in Grundy, Virginia at the Appalachian School of Law.
