E-Mail From Kidnappers Says Daniel Pearl Has Been Killed

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We want to let you know about a disturbing development we're getting here at CNN about the fate of kidnapped reporter "Wall Street Journal" reporter Daniel Pearl.

News organizations today have received an e-mail which claims that the "Wall Street Journal" reporter Daniel Pearl has been killed. We have yet to confirm that information. We just want to pass on to you what this e-mail is saying.

The e-mail was sent by the group that claims to have abducted Pearl. The "Wall Street Journal," at this point, says that they have seen the reports, but the "Wall Street Journal" still remaining hopeful that Daniel Pearl is alive.

Meanwhile, also want to let you know that there are reports from Karachi police that a group had demanded $2 million ransom within the next 36 hours for Pearl's release.

So, confirmation of exactly what has happened to Danny Pearl, we do not have at this point; but we do want to pass on the development that the latest e-mail that has been sent does say that Daniel Pearl has been killed.

We will continue to follow that and get more information on the fate of the kidnapped "Wall Street Journal" reporter. Certainly hope that it turns out to be better than that news.
