BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Going to get to California right now. The parents of Chandra Levy have come out of their house, apparently taking questions and statements. Let's listen here.

(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

QUESTION: Have you spoken to Assemblyman Cardoza?

DR. ROBERT LEVY, CHANDRA LEVY'S FATHER: No.

HEMMER: All right. Prior to that, there was a statement that the Levies came out and read together. We missed the tailend of it there because we were getting the latest on the Andrea Yates case. We will try and track down indeed what was said there.

The Levies, you might remember, throughout the summertime, this was a rather common daily appearance where they would come to the end of their driveway and again plea for help in finding and locating their daughter.

Now with Gary Condit's defeat yesterday in the California primary, his political future at least in the near term is over as of this coming fall, here is what the Levies had to say a few moments ago.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SUSAN LEVY, CHANDRA LEVY'S MOTHER: Good morning.

R. LEVY: Hi.

S. LEVY: We want you to know that from the beginning, we are not involved in this campaign. We are parents and we are only concerned about finding our daughter, Chandra.

R. LEVY: It has just never been about politics. It is just about helping to find our daughter, Chandra. And Mr. Condit has made pledges and promises for a long time, even before the campaign, during the campaign, that he would do anything he could to help the investigators. And we just ask that he keep his word and keep his pledge that he will cooperate completely and talk to our investigators and help them find our daughter. And we just hope that will be done.

S. LEVY: Thank you. R. LEVY: Thank you.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HEMMER: All right. The parents of Chandra Levy there, clearly on the front lawn of their house there, a pledge, a public plea to Gary Condit to follow through with what they say are his words and his pledge to find their daughter, missing now for 10 months and counting, dating back to the spring of last year.
