MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: We have gadgets this morning; yes, we do. And the man himself with the gadgets, Mr. Gadget, Steve Kruschen.
Good morning. Welcome back. Welcome back to CNN.
KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Good to see you.
O'BRIEN: Always good to have you. Thank you.
PHILLIPS: We're getting...
(CROSSTALK)
O'BRIEN: We have lots of toys to play with.
PHILLIPS: Yes, where do we begin?
STEVE KRUSCHEN, MR. GADGET: Well, we're going to begin over here. I'm going to pour some coffee down here just for effect.
PHILLIPS: Oh boy. Our crew's going to go crazy.
KRUSCHEN: A brand new product called the FloorMate from Hoover. Ad that's three products...
O'BRIEN: The coffee on the floor, not seen here...
KRUSCHEN: Coffee on the floor, right. This is a hard floor. This is for your, you know, vinyl floors or your sealed hardwood floors. And you start with, you know, you vacuum up all the dust and dirt. And then -- which pretend we've already done. And then we have cleaning solution in here, we go over the area, and we scrub -- you see little scrubbing brushes happening.
PHILLIPS: Wow.
KRUSCHEN: All right, and then we switch to dry pick-up, and it squeegees the floor dry entirely.
And what's really neat is it starts with a special solution for your hardwood floors or your vinyl floors -- goes in the top here. And only clean water and the cleaning solution go out on the floor, unlike your mop and your bucket. The first time you drop that mop in the bucket, it's filthy. So this just does it all. And it's only $200. I've tested it at home. It works great. I think it's fabulous.
PHILLIPS: Wow.
O'BRIEN: All right. And is it pretty light, because, you know...
KRUSCHEN: Yes, well here you -- go ahead.
O'BRIEN: Excuse me. No, it's not too bad.
KRUSCHEN: No, it's very light.
O'BRIEN: I like those Orecks though.
PHILLIPS: Miles is already Mother's Day shopping.
(CROSSTALK)
KRUSCHEN: They don't clean you floors like...
(CROSSTALK)
KRUSCHEN: OK, now let me scoot over here to this.
This is the SonicWeb. Now, this takes care of those nasty biting insects -- you know, the mosquitoes and the biting flies and the midges. And it uses sound and it uses a scent.
And the sound part is, I think, primary because inside here is actually a speaker. And it emits low-frequency sound that mimics a heartbeat, and it covers about an area of an acre or so.
PHILLIPS: An acre? Wow.
KRUSCHEN: An acre. Draws them in with the sound, and then it also draws them in with a scent -- something they call octanol. It's a little thing you hang here.
O'BRIEN: All right, so where's the killer punch?
KRUSCHEN: The killer punch is -- I don't have it on here because I don't want to stick to it. But on here goes some sticky stuff. So it's pesticide free.
This, it draws them in, and they stick to this and die a horrible...
O'BRIEN: You know, we used to call this the no-pest strip. It's kind of...
(CROSSTALK)
KRUSCHEN: You plug it in. It uses only about 20 watts of electricity; $349. And it, too, really works because - you know, a bug zapper kills the bugs that you don't want to kill.
PHILLIPS: Right, that's what drives me nuts.
KRUSCHEN: Yes. But his only takes care of the biting insects. And in this part of the country and others -- even out West, where I am -- just stick -- you know, stick this in the yard, turn it on. And occasionally you need to change the octanol strip as well as the sticky stuff.
PHILLIPS: And you don't have to have it right next to you, either.
KRUSCHEN: No, you just put it out in the yard.
O'BRIEN: You know, there are some of these things you can spend in excess of $1,000 on.
KRUSCHEN: Absolutely.
(CROSSTALK)
O'BRIEN: ... technology.
KRUSCHEN: That's right, with CO2 technology and all that. And that's why I chose this. That's why I like the SonicWeb. It's a brand new product from a company called Applica. And, well, information about all of them, of course, on my Web site at mrgadget.com.
O'BRIEN: It looks like something that was used in the movie "Contact" to do that thing, you know, that...
(CROSSTALK)
KRUSCHEN: But it also -- you know, with the contrasting colors and it's stripes and things, that also is a visual cue to bring in those nasty bugs because they just -- they're stupid...
O'BRIEN: They're sci-fi fans.
KRUSCHEN: That's right, they're sci-fi fans.
PHILLIPS: All right, what else do we have? We're getting to buggy here.
O'BRIEN: That's it for now, right?
KRUSCHEN: That's it for now. We have lots more to talk about.
PHILLIPS: Oh, we're not going into...
(CROSSTALK)
PHILLIPS: .. every hour.
OK, tease us. What are we going to have next hour? KRUSCHEN: Well, next hour we're going to talk about something from Compaq that you'll see on the screen, it's a way to bring in all of your digital -- not all of it, but a lot of your digital video, all of your digital stills and your MP3s and see it anywhere in the house...
O'BRIEN: Right.
KRUSCHEN: ... in a simple-to-navigate control, whether it's on your TV or whether it's on your computer.
O'BRIEN: I like that.
KRUSCHEN: New technology. We're going to see -- we're going to talk about wireless and wired home networking.
O'BRIEN: You know, I was wondering if you could come to my house and make mine work.
KRUSCHEN: Hey, no problem.
O'BRIEN: I am having a hard time with that.
KRUSCHEN: Yes.
O'BRIEN: But anyway...
KRUSCHEN: And we're going to see a new faucet for the lavatory that's a hands-free thing, sort of like what you see in airports and hotels, but now, for the first time from Delta...
PHILLIPS: You can have it at home?
KRUSCHEN: Yes, it's from (sic) home.
And we're going to see what I think is the ultimate remote; the ultimate guy thing. This is a remote that will -- I've had other ones before, we've seen, but this is the one -- what until you hear about this. This is the one that is it.
O'BRIEN: It is it?
KRUSCHEN: This is it.
O'BRIEN: All right, we just better leave it at that.
KRUSCHEN: We'll leave it at that.
O'BRIEN: That's a little bit of hype, but that's OK.
PHILLIPS: Thanks Steve.
O'BRIEN: Mr. Gadget, Steve Kruschen is with us all morning. We're going to be seeing some more gadgets as the morning goes on.
