BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: We are getting word right now through our CNN staff here that apparently Ariel Sharon, the prime minister, has made an offer to Secretary of State Colin Powell in that meeting earlier today proposing an international conference to talk about the Middle East crisis right now. Among the players in that, the United States apparently has told Israel would help lead the conference. Among the other players: Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and of course the Palestinians.

All this coming a short time ago. Apparently, the offer has been made by Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. More on this as we get it.
