KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: More now on the crisis in the priesthood. Boston has been ground zero for the sex scandal, with several high profile cases and calls for Cardinal Bernard Law to step down. CNN's Jason Carroll joins us live from Boston with reaction to the Vatican meeting. Mixed reaction, right, Jason?

JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Absolutely mixed. But I have to tell you, though, Kyra, the calls for Cardinal Law to resign have not died down here in Boston here in this community. Especially yesterday. A number of protesters showed up in front of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Cardinal Law gave mass at the cathedral yesterday. It was the first time he had been seen in two weeks. A number of people who showed up are unhappy with the way that Cardinal Law has handled the priest scandal here in Boston.

During the mass, Cardinal Law said that he wished he could turn back the clock and undo the harm that has been caused to children. Those words did resonate with those who actually support the cardinal.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I thought it was very meaningful. I think the cardinal is very sorry for what happened. It was a part of the culture of the church that realize now it was wrong. He admitted he made a mistake. And I think the church is going to emerge much stronger.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I'm not sure that I particularly support the way he's handled this. But I continue to pray that God lead him in a way that allows him to be forgiven as well.

CARROLL: Also want to point out that Cardinal Law did receive a standing ovation from parishioners at that mass. Cardinal Law called the crisis a wakeup call for the Catholic Church. He also said, despite all of the anger that's out here against him, he plans to work as hard as he can to end this crisis, as long as he has the opportunity to do so -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Jason Carroll from Boston, thank you.
