PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: We wanted to bring you up to date on a story we called your attention to just about 10 minutes ago. At least one gunman has opened fire inside the high school in Erfurt, Germany, which is an eastern German city, apparently killing two teachers and a police officer who was among the first to arrive at the scene.

At this point we believe that six people have been injured in the shooting, but the police there in Erfurt, Germany are not confirming whether any of the injured were children at the Gutenberg Gymnasium School. The police spokesperson said that at this point they believe there could actually be more than one assailant. They also have confirmed that at least one other gunman has barricaded himself in a classroom in the school.

Once again, at this hour it appears as though six people were injured. We can't tell you if any of those injuries involve children. And the crime rate has been rising in Germany for some time, but school shootings remain unusual there. So as soon as we have more information for you, we will bring it to you. But in the meantime, commando teams will stay on duty there to try to get these gunmen out of the school.
