CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: This Mother's Day how about giving your mom wine or champagne with Mother's Day brunch? Sounds lovely, doesn't it? And with me this morning with some great suggestions for you is wine expert Maureen Petrosky.

MAUREEN PETROSKY, WINE EXPERT: Good morning.

COSTELLO: Hey, thanks for coming in.

PETROSKY: Thanks for having me.

COSTELLO: I see you got the memo, red and black here at CNN today.

PETROSKY: Yes, I got it.

COSTELLO: OK, so if you like your mom a lot and you want to buy her an expensive wine, what's the best bet?

PETROSKY: Well this is a beautiful bottle, the Perrier Jouet Flower Bottle. That is the most popular gift bottle.

COSTELLO: Oh.

PETROSKY: So. That one...

COSTELLO: So how much would you drop for this?

PETROSKY: That's 120.

COSTELLO: Ooh.

PETROSKY: Now right next to it is another wonderful bottle. That's Piper-Heidsieck and that's about 30.

COSTELLO: OK.

PETROSKY: And then we move down the line to about 10.

COSTELLO: So if you don't like your mom very much, buy her this 10 bottle...

PETROSKY: No, this is mom we're talking about. I wouldn't have brought anything if it was bad, so -- this is Korbel, it's a great bottle. And I brought it because it's perfect for the mimosas. It's perfect alone, and it's just really a nice bottle of champagne. And it's a Brut, so we don't want to have anything sweet with your mimosa.

COSTELLO: So this is high end, mid-range, cheap -- I mean less expensive?

PETROSKY: Not cheap, affordable.

COSTELLO: OK. Let's say your mother is a tiny, teeny little woman like mine, because my mom's this big. One glass of wine, she's gone. So what's...

PETROSKY: Go for the mimosa.

COSTELLO: Go for the -- what is a mimosa for people who don't know?

PETROSKY: A mimosa is orange juice and champagne. It's two parts champagne, one part orange juice. So there you're already cutting back on what's in that glass.

Again, another option is the white zinfandel. I know a lot of moms love it and this is...

COSTELLO: White zinfandel.

PETROSKY: Hey, hey, hey.

COSTELLO: As Chad likes to say...

PETROSKY: Again...

COSTELLO: ... friends don't let friends drink white zin.

PETROSKY: Well I'll let him take that up with Robert Mondavi because we've brought a bottle of the CK Mondavi and that's a nice bottle. And it's a dry wine so it's really food friendly and it goes -- and it's low alcohol so that's another option.

COSTELLO: A lot of people do brunch on Mother's Day so what's a good light wine to drink in the morning?

PETROSKY: A nice aperitif-style wine is the Sauvignon Blanc, and this is a Sebastiani Sauvignon Blanc. And another is this dry Riesling. So again, they're not overwhelming on the palate, but they're bright on the pallet. So they're going to cleanse the mouth and really have you ready for your meal. So I would recommend those wines.

COSTELLO: You know you don't hear of a push to buy wine for mom on Mother's Day. Is that something new in the wine industry?

PETROSKY: Well I think that wine and food are becoming more popular and everyone's comfortable with it and has their own favorites. So I think that yes, it is becoming more popular, and if you know what mom likes, stick to that. COSTELLO: Got you.

Where's the light one to drink in the morning?

PETROSKY: Try this, this is the dry Riesling.

COSTELLO: OK. OK. I toast to Jack Cafferty this morning. This is supposed to be wine you drink in the morning, Jack, so we'll send you some.

JACK CAFFERTY, CNN ANCHOR: You know one of our guys here on the crew the minute you asked that question what's a nice wine to drink in the morning, he didn't even miss a beat, he said, Well, whatever's left over from last night.

(LAUGHTER)

COSTELLO: Fabulous.

CAFFERTY: Are you guys -- you guys have quite a time down there on that program early on. This is the second time in a couple of weeks I've seen you with a glass of wine in your hand.

COSTELLO: Well why do you think we have such a good time, Jack, we've got wine.

CAFFERTY: There you go. All right.
