BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: As you just saw from Reno, Nevada, Luke Helder now on his way to the airport and then eventually to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Martin Savidge standing by in Reno to bring us up to date. It was a short walk, Marty, but we did see it live here when it happened a few moments ago. Good afternoon to you.

MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Bill. His departure out of here was delayed, but it was certainly not denied. He is now on his way to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. You saw as he stepped out of the detention facility, where he has been since Tuesday.

It was about 2:30 Eastern Time when he walked out, wearing a white jumpsuit. Traditionally we have seen him wearing an orange jumpsuit, or orange clothing. And not quite as smiling as we have seen him at other times. And the sheriff here had pointed out the fact that with each passing day, there seemed to be a growing reality within this young man's mind as to exactly how much trouble he is in.

And he is going to get a great dose of that when he arrives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa there. He steps into a federal courtroom, we're told, around 8:00 to perhaps 8:30 p.m. this evening.

We don't know what the delay was in transportation. We understand that it had something to do with airline schedules, but that was as far as the U.S. marshals would go. The U.S. marshals are the ones in charge of moving him and getting him to Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids, though, is not the only stop. There are other federal jurisdictions that have lined up charges against him, in such states as Illinois, Nebraska. And more federal charges are expected. And even just in Iowa, potentially, if he were to be found guilty on the two charges, he could get up to life in prison.

So he has a long journey ahead of him and potentially, he could face a long time behind bars -- Bill.

HEMMER: Marty, do you know, is there a court appearance later today in Iowa?

SAVIDGE: Yes, that's what we're being told. It was originally scheduled for around 4:30 Central Time, 5:30 Eastern. Now we're being told, I think because of the delays on this end, that it's been moved to about 8:00 p.m. Eastern or perhaps 8:30. It is still expected to take place, though, Bill. HEMMER: Marty, thanks. Martin Savidge watching the scene in Reno.
