Apartment Owners, Dwellers Warned of Terrorism by FBI

CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: OK, apartment dwellers, you know by now to watch out for suspicious activity. The guidance comes after the FBI passed what it calls general threat information to real estate industry leaders.

Reporter Richard Elliott of our Atlanta affiliate WSB has reaction.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

RICHARD ELLIOTT, WSB REPORTER (voice-over): There are hundreds of apartment complexes throughout the metro area. Now, the latest potential terrorist threat affects the thousands of Atlantans who live in them.

The FBI notification says, "Terrorists may be planning to rent an apartment high rise building, fill it with explosives, and bring the entire structure down."

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I concerned about myself, because I live alone.

ELLIOTT: Tanya Brocko (ph) and others who live here in the Arch Stone Apartments in the Virginia Highlands woke up to see flyers in their apartment, warning them about the latest terrorist notifications and urging them to be careful and be safe.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I be glad and I be happy I received this letter today.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it's always appropriate to be aware of your environment no matter what the circumstances are. I think anybody today is crazy not to be aware of who is around.

ELLIOTT: Some other apartment residents in the metro area say the potential threat is just that, potential. And there is little they can do to prevent another attack.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: My thing is, you know, they say, you know, where there is a whole group of people, that's where it's likely to happen, but I mean you never know. You never know.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There is really nothing that we can do, because we never know, you know, when they are going to hit or what time, so you just to have to be...
