KRIS OSBORN, CNN ANCHOR: Up first this hour on CNN, Chandra Levy. The D.C. medical examiner is expected to reveal early findings this hour about how the former intern died.

On the West Coast today, the Levy family is preparing to say goodbye. More on that in a moment.

But first, CNN national correspondent Bob Franken is at the D.C. police headquarters.

Good morning -- Bob.

BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Good morning.

And of course, the story comes to us from various fronts -- Modesto, of course. The sad memorial service here at D.C. metropolitan police headquarters, where (UNINTELLIGIBLE) and where, in fact, the investigation (UNINTELLIGIBLE) with the official finding, which we're expecting in a little under a half hour from the medical examiner's office in another part of town.

The medical examiner, Dr. Jonathan Arden, will come out and give his official word on the official cause of death. That is to say the expectation among investigators is that it will be declared a homicide. Assuming that's the case, it then becomes finally a criminal investigation.

Of course, this was so long a missing person investigation until about a week ago, a little less than a week ago, when the remains of Chandra Levy were found by the police, by somebody who then notified police. They were identified that same day as the remains that had been missing since May 1, when Chandra Levy disappeared, who was then a 24-year-old intern.

So we'll wait for announcement coming up in a little less than a half hour -- Kris.

OSBORN: Bob Franken, live in D.C., thank you very much for bringing us the latest on that. Bob was out at Rock Creek Park right as the remains were found and shortly thereafter. We appreciate it.
