CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: From Los Angeles now, there are late developments at this hour into the shoplifting case against actress Winona Ryder. CNN's Paul Clinton joins us live from Beverly Hills with more on that. Paul, is this a -- this is just a preliminary hearing, right, before any sort of real trial might begin?

PAUL CLINTON, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes, this is a preliminary hearing to determine whether, in fact, there will a trial. And Winona Ryder was required to be here at this one. It was postponed four times, and now the judge has just told her attorney that she does, in fact, have to appear. The judge called for a short recess. And right after that recess, her attorney was on the phone. I assume he was calling her. He got into the elevator and I got in with him and asked him what the strategy was. And he actually told me that he was going to file a motion to have the district attorney removed from the case due to conflict of interest. He would not tell me what that conflict of interest, but the trial is now -- as we're in a brief recess and we're set to go back in in a few minutes.

LIN: All right. Thank you very much. Paul Clinton with the latest there, a conflict of interest. That might be interesting.
