DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Up first this hour on CNN, the latest developments in the search for a missing Utah girl. Police have recovered the license plate belonging to a drifter who may have information about the disappearance of Elizabeth Smart. And authorities acknowledge they are focusing on at least one member of the girl's extended family as part of their investigation.

Our James Hattori has more. He joins us live, once again, from Salt Lake City -- James, good morning.

JAMES HATTORI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Daryn.

A man wanted in connection with the crime for questioning -- not a suspect, but questioning, continues to elude police. Twenty-six- year-old Brett Michael Edmunds was spotted driving suspiciously on the street where Elizabeth Smart was kidnapped a couple of days prior to her disappearance.

Last night, the license plates to his vehicle were found. Apparently he ditched them. Still no sign of Edmunds, though.

In the meantime, CNN has confirmed reports that the results of a polygraph test given to a member of Elizabeth Smart's extended family were inconclusive. Now police have said all along that the family is being looked at. The possibility of an inside job, just one of several theories investigators are looking at.

The Smart family says that this does not put a dark cloud over them.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DAVID FRANCOM, UNCLE OF ELIZABETH SMART: The difficult part is missing Elizabeth. And, as we've commented before, we'll do anything that it takes -- anything.

CYNTHIA SMART OWENS, AUNT OF ELIZABETH SMART: And actually, we don't really view it at all as a cloud. We feel it's part of being thorough in the investigation. If they can find anything anywhere that will lead to bringing Elizabeth home, we are more than happy to do that.

(END VIDEO CLIP) HATTORI: In the meantime, police with dogs again searched the crime scene, Elizabeth Smart's home, last evening. Investigators would not say what they were looking for. They also talked once more to the only witness to the crime, nine-year-old Mary Catherine, Elizabeth's sister. Investigators say if she had seen someone she recognized, she would have told them. So the presumption is she did not get a good look at the kidnapper -- Daryn.

KAGAN: James Hattori in Salt Lake City, thank you so much.
