DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, no cameras in the courtroom today as actress Winona Ryder has to head back to face some very serious charges. Earlier, at an earlier court appearance, there was kind of a run-in with a news camera and Winona says that she broke her arm.

CNN's Susan Campos is covering today's proceedings and joins us from outside the courthouse in Beverly Hills -- Susan, hello.

SUSAN CAMPOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Daryn.

Winona Ryder is supposed to arrive here any moment in Beverly Hills for an arraignment. She will be arraigned on charges of shoplifting and drug possession. Now she's expected to enter a not guilty plea and they may set a trial date today. The district attorney's office is hoping that they immediately set a trial date. And they have, of course, filed notice that they may want to present evidence of prior acts in the case.

Winona Ryder's attorney says there are no prior acts in the case and that he will present receipts and a prescription for the drugs that were found on her on December 12, when she was arrested at Saks Fifth Avenue. If convicted on all charges, Winona Ryder could face the maximum penalty of three years, eight months in prison. And Judge Elden Fox is hearing this case, and he is the same judge apparently that heard Zsa Zsa Gabor's case years ago -- Daryn.

KAGAN: Now I'm sure there's no shortage of stories that they can tell in the Beverly Hills courthouse. Now last time Winona had to appear, there was a run-in with a news camera and she says that she broke her arm. Any special things happening today to try to keep the media crowd a little bit calmer today so that there's not a repeat performance of that, Susan?

CAMPOS: Right. Well, basically the media and camera crews have been told to stay 10 feet away from Winona Ryder. Because as you said, last week apparently she said that somebody bumped into her and she re-injured her arm that apparently she broke on "Mr. Deeds," a movie that she has coming out this summer.

KAGAN: Got it. So people playing a little bit nicer in Beverly Hills today -- Susan Campos, thank you so much. Put your battle gear on. I know things can get a little intense out there at those celebrity trials.
