CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Adam Sandler is back on the big screen this weekend in a remake of the Hollywood classic “Mr. Deeds.” But will the movie be classic Sandler.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ADAM SANDLER, ACTOR: I’ve got to try this.

Was that awesome! Am I out, or safe?

I’m with you.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CALLAWAY: Now, I don’t remember that in the original, but for more on "Mr. Deeds" and all the rest of the movies that have high hopes on the big screen this weekend, Russ Leatherman, the voice of Mr. Moviefone joining us from Los Angeles.

Thanks for being with us this morning. It’s early out there.

RUSS LEATHERMAN, MR. MOVIEFONE: It is early, but any chance to be with you, I’m here.

CALLAWAY: Well, we’re glad to have you here.

You know, I just saw that one scene from the movie. Is this classic Adam Sandler, or are we going to see a different side of him in this movie?

LEATHERMAN: Well, it’s a remake of a Frank Capra classic. Is it classic Adam Sandler?: It’s the same Adam Sandler. We’ve seen this before. You know, if this movie opens and does well, we will see it again.

This movie is no disaster. It’s no “Little Nicky,” but then again, it’s not exactly “The Wedding Singer,” or even “The Water Boy.”

So, moviegoers are mixed on this thing. His core group of fans will show up to see it, but it will probably have a pretty big drop- off after the first weekend.

So it’s going to do OK. It’s not terrible. It’s not great.

CALLAWAY: Yes, I like Adam Sandler, though.

All right, “Men in Black II,” part two

LEATHERMAN: This is the big movie that we’re all looking forward to. It opens next week.

You know, Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones. The first movie was kind of a surprise hit, and a huge hit. And you know, this is going to be another big, big movie, kind of in the line of what we’ve seen so far with “Spider-Man” or even “Star Wars.” It’s going to be a huge hit.

CALLAWAY: I’ve got to ask you about “Hey, Arnold,” because my kids are watching.

LEATHERMAN: “Hey, Arnold”

CALLAWAY: You know, you’ve got to ask about that. Most people in the newsroom didn’t know who “Hey, Arnold” -- you know, what this was all about. And I was like, Nickelodeon, “Hey, Arnold,” football- head, as he’s called. Have you seen this yet?

LEATHERMAN: Well, yes. And, actually, so have you. Because if you’ve sat behind your children and watched 10 minutes of this thing while they had it on TV, you’ve seen the movie. This is a prime example of taking a television show, one of these cartoons, adapting it for the big screen, but basically it’s no different than an extended cartoon that you would see on television.

So if your kids like it at home, they’re going to like it at the theater. You might want to bring some reading material, but the kids are going to like it.

CALLAWAY: Yes, but see, there’s no commercials, and it’s on the big screen, and there’s all those goodies there, so

LEATHERMAN: Yes, that football-head is giant. How can you beat that?

CALLAWAY: No, you can’t.

All right. Let me ask you quickly about “Minority Report.” How’s it doing now? It’s got some competition.

LEATHERMAN: Well, it does have some competition. It’s going to have another good weekend. I think that moviegoers are mixed on this one.

Again, it’s no “AI.” It’s not that far out there, but it’s a little dark, it’s a little choppy. Lots of moviegoers are loving it, but some didn’t like it so much. I think maybe the studio’s a little disappointed as to how it opened.

But you know, hard to argue with Spielberg and Cruise. It’s a watchable movie, and it’s going to continue to do very well, as is “Lilo and Stitch.” You were talking about your kids. If they’re going to go see “Hey, Arnold,” you should stick around at the theatre and go see “Lilo and Stitch,” because that’s a really good kid movie.

CALLAWAY: See, all I’ve seen is kid’s movies. I’m ready for something like a “Minority Report,” a good R movie.

LEATHERMAN: A good R movie?

Well, by the way, if you want a laugh, too, you could go see “Mr. Deeds.”

And from what I understand, you know, it’s not confirmed, but I heard that Winona Ryder kind of steals the movie.

CALLAWAY: Oh, that’s bad.

LEATHERMAN: Hello, is this working?

CALLAWAY: I’ve got to go to break now.

LEATHERMAN: I don’t blame you.

CALLAWAY: You could get me in trouble now.

All right. Mr. Moviefone, Russ Leatherman, thanks for being with us. Have a good day.

LEATHERMAN: Thanks.
