CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We have more information now on that midair collision near the German-Swiss border. That incident involved a Russian jetliner and a cargo plane. Of course, all died on board.

For more on the collision, we want to go to German radio reporter Stefan Scheurer. He joins us live from the crash site -- Stefan, can you describe the scene for us?

STEFAN SCHEURER, GERMAN RADIO REPORTER: OK, as you can see behind me, the Lake of Constance, there are calm waters, but several boats that are trying to get some wrecked parts that dropped from the sky tonight. And this is the one scene, the most part of the planes maybe dropped into the Lake of Constance.

And the other scenes are here around 30 kilometers around Ueberlingen, where I stand now. Ueberlingen, it's next to the Swiss border. And one hour ago there was the Baden-Wurttemberg chief, Alvin Toeffle (ph), and he said that he flew with a helicopter around the scene and said there are several human over veils and he saw them all across the forests here in Ueberlingen and the fields.

COSTELLO: Did most of the debris fall into the water? Do people live around that area? Are there homes there?

SCHEURER: I didn't get the question, but I can tell something about the victims. There haven't been victims from the ground, from the people who live here. There was only victims from the planes, from the two planes that crashes.

A rumor now takes place here in Germany, maybe that Tupolev captain has changed the frequency too fast so he didn't get the information of the flight controller. And the flight controller said at 11:40 p.m. that night that he has to turn right or turn down stairs, less altitude, for not crashing into the Boeing 757 cargo carrier.

COSTELLO: A lot of questions still to be answered.

Thank you very much.
