Park Police Prepares for July 4

BOB FRANKEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: ...going on here. At the same time, however, they're saying they want the people to come out. They want to make a statement to the terrorists that the fear of some sort of attack is not going to keep people from coming out and enjoying the 4th of July, the statement of independence in the United States.

As a matter of fact, they're expecting larger crowds here in the Mall than usual for the fireworks display, which is preceded by the National Symphony Orchestra concert.

It's an annual celebration that is duplicated around the country -- Boston, New York, et cetera, et cetera, and the officials are everywhere saying that when we have these celebrations, people should come out to make their statement.

In Washington the franchise they have these days is the snow fence franchise. They've become quite a bit of scene here, particularly when there is some sort of mass event, and certainly they've been rolling out the snow fence here, and that is going to set up, officials say, their checkpoints.
