DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: People are pretty hot about the situation. Some baseball fans bracing for the possibility of yet another strike. They are looking at even more unexpected work stoppage last night, the bizarre, very bizarre finish of an All-Star Game. It was simply called after 11 innings as a tie.

Our CNN sports reporter Josie Karp has more on this latest curveball that's been thrown to fans.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JOSIE KARP, CNN SPORTS CORRESPONDENT: After an all-star break that was filled with talk of revenue sharing and work stoppages, both owners and players hoped, that at least for one evening, attention would return to baseball itself. The 73rd edition of the All-Star Game accomplished just that but for all of the wrong reasons.

BUD SELIG, MLB COMMISSIONER: As much as I hated to do it, and with all the reluctance in the world, given people here in the stadium and the people watching on television, I really, really had no choice at the end but to end the game at the end of the 11th inning.

TODD HELTON, COLORADO ROCKIES: It was bizarre all right. I've never seen anything like it, but you know they made the decision to, I guess to protect the pitchers that were out there.

MIKE SWEENEY, KANSAS CITY ROYALS: The last time, I think, I had a game like that was when it got too dark and the street lights weren't coming on, and you know, you say OK guys, we'll see you tomorrow morning and we'll play it again.

PAUL KONERKO, CHICAGO WHITE SOX: It does stink. There's no doubt about that. You want to see a winner and a loser, you know, but you just can't risk hurting guys. You just can't do it. I mean you can't have a Freddie Garcia go back to Seattle with his arm being sore because he threw five innings in the All Star-Game.

JOE TORRE, AMERICAN LEAGUE MANAGER: When you have players come to an All-Star Game, you want to get them in, and the downside is, if you get them all in and it's the ninth inning, the tenth inning and the eleventh inning, well you can't have it both ways.

CURT SCHILLING, ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS: I thought we should have, each time picked a player at the end of the game and had a homerun derby to see who winds. That would have been a lot more exciting than ending up in a tie.

KARP: In an emotional moment before the start of the game, it was announced that the All Star MVP Award would be renamed in honor of Ted Williams, and just another example of how bizarre this night ended up being, that award was never even handed out.

In Milwaukee, I'm Josie Karp.
