MILES O'BRIEN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's get more now on the Israeli air strike in southern Gaza. For that, we turn to Mike Hannah, on the line now from Jerusalem.

Hello, Mike.

MIKE HANNAH, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Miles. Well, residents in Gaza say that there's been an explosion at a building in Khan Younes, that's a town just outside Gaza City. According to residents in the area, there was an Israeli jet aircraft and a number of helicopters in the air at the time of the explosion. Eyewitnesses say that the building was struck by at least one missile.

There has been no comment yet from the Israeli Defense Force as to whether is was responsible for this explosion. Residents say that the building was evacuated shortly before the attack, nobody was in the building, reportedly, when the missile, if it was a missile, actually struck. And there were a number of bystanders injured by flying concrete, as a result of the explosion. But as yet, still no confirmation from the Israeli Defense Force that it was responsible for this attack.

Residents say that the building had in recent months been used by Palestinian police officers. It was not a residential building at the period, at this time of the explosion. Still clarification awaited, though, from the Israeli Defense Force as to whether it was responsible for this attack -- Miles.

O'BRIEN: All right, CNN's Mike Hannah.
