KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Treading a fine line between reverence and redevelopment, a New York panel today revealed six designs for the future of the World Trade Center. The goal: to return office space to the site and honor the thousands of people who died there. Joining us now with more on this, CNN's Jason Carroll.

Hi, Jason.

JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good afternoon to you, Kyra.

You know, for months people here in New York City have been talking about speculating about what the city will ultimately do with the site of the World Trade Center, where the Twin Towers once stood. Now, we finally have an answer. They've come up with six proposals, six proposals of what they plan to do for the site.

Let's go over them. The fist one we had first chance to look at this morning called "Memorial Plaza." The tallest building in that one is 79 story. There is 18 acres of park-like space included there, as well as two square footprints which would ultimately mark the site of where the Twin Towers once stood.

Number two is called "Memorial Square." The tallest building in that one, 80 stories, 24 acres of open space. A few smaller building surrounding the largest one there.

Number three is called "Memorial Triangle." the tallest of the group this that one. 85 stories, 13 acres of park-like space in that one, a memorial on the site as well.

Number four is called "Memorial Garden." The tallest building 80 stories, 6.8 acres of open space. Looks a little different than the others, four smaller building surrounding the larger one there.

Number five is called "Memorial Park." There are two buildings, each one 72 stores. Three smaller building, 45 stories each. And also a column in the area symbolically marking the spot of where the twin towers once stood.

Finally, number six is called memorial Promenade. That one again, we've got two buildings slightly smaller, 63 stories each. Four buildings surrounding those, 32 stories each, a very large open space, 27 acres, and again, some sort of symbolic column marking the spot where the Twin Towers once stood.

Just a little bit of timeline for you. By September, the city hopes to have six narrowed down to three, and by December, the three ultimately narrowed down to one. That final version might be some sort of a combination of what the six proposals sort of stand for.

In the end, they know that they're not going to please everyone. They say they hope they can ultimately come up with a plan that will in some way honor those who lost their lives and also show that New York city is back on track -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Good news. Jason Carroll, thank you so much.
