KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: In Europe, wet and windy weather couldn't stop the second round of the British Open though.

Patrick Snell of CNN Sports has more now from Muirfield.

PATRICK SNELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Welcome to Muirfield, Scotland, the British Open. Once again, it's been a day of low scoring and players taking full advantage of the conditions, which although not as good as the first day, when they were perfect, have certainly been far from treacherous.

Well, among them, what about world number one, Tiger Woods, looking for his third major of the season. You'll recall he shot an opening round Thursday of 71 under par. Well, his second round began encouragingly. He picked up a couple of early birdies, to put himself right back in contention. And at one point, through eight holes, he was three under par.

As I say, there are golfers ahead of him, including Scotland's Colin Montgomery, who shot a 64. That's seven under for the round, leaving him at four under par for the tournament. So impressive stuff from Colin Montgomery.

South Africa's Ernie Els at one point was eight under par, leading the tournament. That was down to a staggering 29 on opening nine holes. So South Africa's Ernie Els certainly setting his name up in lights.

But ominously for all his rivals, Tiger Woods is flexing his muscles and is still firmly in contention here at Muirfield, Scotland.

At the British Open, I'm Patrick Snell.
