ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: Well it is billed as the biggest event in the aerospace industry. The Farnborough Air Show in southeast England is a chance for manufacturers to show off their latest planes, jets and missiles. This year the legacy of 9/11 is playing a part.

CNN's Richard Quest is our man on the scene there, and he joins us now with more details - Richard.

RICHARD QUEST, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Anderson, one, perhaps, way of describing this particular event is the classic "boys with toys" because there are simply an enormous number of planes, military and civil, and just about everything you could possibly think about that you might want to put up into the air.

Welcome, as they say, to Farnborough. These are some of the planes behind me that you can see. These are the static displays. You've got the Airbus A340. That one there, incidentally, is the longest plane in the world. It's longer, further, whatever else it says, but that is here on display. Boeing has its Connections (ph). There are an enormous number of military planes.

A lot of the focus this year, Anderson, is on military aircraft and defense spending. Obviously not only from 9/11 but also the war against terror and a variety of other military actions, whether it be Iraq or wherever, has now put a lot of focus, a lot of governments now spending.

And at the end of the day, Anderson, I want to show you this. This is the book, the trade catalog for Farnborough. It is hundreds and hundreds of the variety of exhibitors who are here. And there are some fantastic. How about this -- how about this, somewhere over there in one of the many exhibition halls, there is a company that makes a connector and a manual and pneumatic captain stripping (ph) tool for your crimping. Now you tell me what that's all about.

COOPER: I do not know.

Now I heard a rumor, and I don't know if this is true, is that Lou Dobbs' jet behind you? Is that -- is that his private plane right behind you there?

QUEST: No, no, I believe his is parked -- oh no, no, there -- there's Mr. Dobbs', that little one at the end of the runway. You see the one that's just about to takeoff, I think that's the CNN plane.

COOPER: Yes, I think that is, actually -- that...

QUEST: It's a lot smaller. It's got one propeller on the front.

COOPER: That's the AOL Time Warner corporate jet.

All right, thanks very much, Richard Quest. We appreciate you joining us this morning. Thanks very much.
