KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: There is outrage in Gaza today after a deadly Israeli airstrike. Fifteen people were killed, including at least nine children, in an Israeli mission to kill a senior Hamas leader. Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called it a success, but the White House calls it an attack -- calls the attack, rather, "heavy- handed."

CNN Mike Hanna reports from Gaza City on the aftermath.

MIKE HANNA, CNN JERUSALEM BUREAU CHIEF (on camera): There is grieving in the streets of Gaza City, but there is anger as well, throughout the day, the people burying the dead. Among those killed in the Israeli F-16 attack on an a apartment building in downtown Gaza City, a number of children, the youngest of whom was not yet 2-months- old.

Also killed in the attack, the man that Israel said was responsible for a series of terror attacks against Israeli civilians, the leader of the militant wing, the military wing of the militant Hamas movement, Salah Shehade. Israel accused him of being responsible for, among other things, suicide bombings, and also for the firing of mortars and the planning of mortar attacks against Jewish settlers and the soldiers protecting them in the Gaza Strip and in the West Bank.

From the Palestinians now, cries of revenge, the pledge that with this attack, any hope or any talk about any contacts within the foreseeable future will not take place; that there will be attacks against Israeli civilians, within Israel imminently.

Mike Hanna, CNN, in Gaza City.
