Aired August 15, 2002 - 14:10   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: An equally emotional testimony now taking place just outside of Atlanta, Georgia in a DeKalb County courthouse. We are hearing the testimony of the widow of slain Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown. You are looking at, however, the man accused -- or the man found guilty of killing him.
(JOINED IN PROGRESS)

PHYLLIS BROWN, VICTIM'S WIFE: ... anything left other than a name plate at Dawn (ph) Cemetery. So at least for you, I wish his face every time you close your eyes. And one more thing. I also wish -- I want you to hear my granddaughter's scream when she found -- when I was picking her up from school, and she found out that she was coming to my home, and I had to ask a police officer to bring her into the house because she would not come into my house because she knew that was where her papa (ph) was killed. And it frightened her. She didn't want to go back. Now, imagine that as a grandmother. I have lost my husband. Kids are grown. At least I have grandkids, but she was afraid to come to my house because she knew that was where her papa (ph) was killed, and to the men and women of the DeKalb County Police Department, DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, thank you so very much because you have helped me to move on. But for Dorsey (ph), keep Derwin's picture in your mind, because that is all I have. Thank you.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Nothing further.

WHITFIELD: That was Phyllis Oliver Brown, the widow of Sheriff- elect Derwin Brown. It was she who found the body of her husband outside their home that December of 2000, after he was gunned down there. This is now the sentencing phase of former DeKalb County sheriff Sidney Dorsey, who was found guilty earlier this summer of murdering Derwin Brown, and of course, when that sentence is brought, of course, we will be bringing that to you live.
