CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Joining us now on the phone from Washington is our deputy bureau chief Steve Redisch with a look at "What's on Tap" there today.
Good morning -- Steve.

STEVE REDISCH, CNN WASHINGTON DEPUTY BUREAU CHIEF: Good morning.

COSTELLO: Are you following this baseball stuff?

REDISCH: I'd rather talk about the baseball stuff than anything inside the beltway. It's a lot more interesting, at least today.

COSTELLO: Uh-oh, that means there must not be much on tap.

REDISCH: Labor Day started already. The whole weekend is upon us; and in Washington, very little going on.

COSTELLO: Well there's a big march, right, by the Islamic Society of North America. What's that about?

REDISCH: They're holding their annual conference. And this year's conference is called "Islam: A Call for Peace and Justice." Four days here in Washington over the -- over the Labor Day holiday, and we'll be covering that later on today.

COSTELLO: Got you. OK, I want to go back to baseball for just a second because you want to talk about it. There's a big tribute for the Negro League tonight.

REDISCH: A black tie tribute over at Andrews Air Force Base honoring some of the Negro League ballplayers here in the -- that are living here in the area. One of them is a 100-year-old man, Ted "Double Duty" Radcliff. Why he's called "Double Duty," I'm not sure. He played for the Homestead Grays which played a little bit here and a little bit near Pittsburgh.

And one of the other people they're honoring is Mamie Johnson, and her nickname was "Peanut." And yes, her nickname, she was the first professional female pitcher and she played for the Indianapolis Clowns. So this should be a pretty fun evening tonight at Andrews.

COSTELLO: They were actually called the Indianapolis Clowns?

REDISCH: The Indianapolis Clowns. There was the Kansas City Monarchs, the Atlanta Black Crackers, the Detroit Stars. Yes, pretty -- a lot of fun names out there. COSTELLO: Yes, well that's a nice thing about baseball.

Thank you, Steve Redisch, we'll let you get back to work.

REDISCH: Thank you.

COSTELLO: Bye.
