Oakland A's Tie Record for Consecutive Wins

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Thanks to an averted baseball strike, the Oakland A's have reached a major milestone. Today, they are going to try for their 20th straight win when they play the Kansas City Royals.
Sue Kwon of our affiliate KPIX has more on the A's on a roll.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

SUE KWON, KPIX CORRESPONDENT: The Oakland A's had to work hard this Labor Day, but they did the job, coming from behind to win their 19th game in a row, treating fans to a historic moment.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Had to squeeze it right by the defenders, and we won 19 in a row.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This means that we are going all the way. All the way!

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It is so exciting to have them playing this way. Yes, Miggy (ph).

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The team played pretty interesting (ph).

KWON: The team estimates there were at least 38,000 fans on had to see the A's tie the league record.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We've always been fans, but especially now that they are winning.

KWON: More fans adds up to more fan fare, and sales at the souvenir shop.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This shirt was the most popular selling item, but we are now out of them.

KWON (on camera): Sold out?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Sold out.

KWON (voice-over): The A's may not be a wealthy team with a large payroll, but they are rich when it comes to fan support, thousands are jumping on the bandwagon, joining long-timer Sally Crab (ph), who hasn't missed a home game all season, a winning season she attributes to more than success of one player, Miguel Tejada.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: They love each other, and nobody is jealous of each other like some teams, you know?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It is the chemistry and their youth, and now they have gotten this attitude that they can't be beaten.
