CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We know when people are visually impaired they often have guide dogs to help them get around, but what do blind dogs have?
CNN's Alex Quade shows us.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ALEX QUADE, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Meet Meagan (ph) and Millie (ph), a pair of poodles you can hardly tell apart. One is a blind dog, the other a guide dog.

Meagan, the blind one, wears a yellow badge and manages just fine because she has a helper, Millie, the other poodle and Meagan's guide dog. Meagan was born blind. Vets advised her owners to put her to sleep, but they decided on a different route.

CHERRY LAWTON, POODLE OWNER: Gradually it became obvious that we couldn't part them. We got to keep them both and it would be good for Meagan to have a guide dog. Millie was the perfect guide dog for Meagan to have.

QUADE: Millie shows Meagan the way. She wears a bell so Meagan can hear where she is.

LAWTON: Millie. Millie. Millie.

QUADE: The two are inseparable. Meagan relies on Millie, following her every step, most of the time.

LAWTON: Sometimes she's been known to sort of dash off and drag Millie along. And it doesn't always work the way we want it, but most of the time it does. And the older they get, the more confident Meagan is getting.

QUADE: Their owner says the two are a handful. It doesn't take much guessing to see which one is the most exhausted after a long walk.

LAWTON: Oh me, definitely. Definitely me.

QUADE: Alex Quade, CNN.
