CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: It's time now to head to Washington, where our D.C. deputy bureau chief, Steve Redisch, is on the line with us to tell us what's on tap.
Good morning -- Steve.

STEVE REDISCH, CNN WASHINGTON DEPUTY BUREAU CHIEF: Good morning, Catherine.

CALLAWAY: 2002 political campaign in play today all over Washington and elsewhere, right?

REDISCH: It kind of hits, you know, at a certain point in New Jersey today. Both President Bush and the Senate leader -- the Democrat's leader, Tom Daschle, are in the same place, Trenton, New Jersey. President Bush goes there for a fund-raiser for the Senate candidate, Douglas Forrester, while Tom Daschle is there for a fund- raiser for the Democratic candidate, the incumbent senator, Bob Torricelli. And in Trenton, New Jersey, both leaders of both parties will make their cases.

CALLAWAY: Let's talk about the Senate hearings, Steve -- certainly Iraq to be the hot topic.

REDISCH: Today up on Capitol Hill, the Senate Armed Services Committee will be talking about Iraq and the lead-up for Iraq and trying to make the case regarding an attack against Iraq. They'll hear from former generals. The former Joint Chiefs chairman, John Shalikashvili, will be one of them. Former Supreme Allied commander, General Wesley Clark, who is a CNN analyst, will be there...

CALLAWAY: Yes.

REDISCH: ... along with the former Central Command commander-in- chief, General Joseph Hoar, and others regarding military build-up, military action against Iraq, and what needs to be done.

CALLAWAY: CNN will certainly be covering that.

Now, I know there in Washington, you've got, any day of the week, a protest that you could cover. But today, the one that you'll be watching has a lot to do with marijuana use.

REDISCH: Today, a group of people, who approve of using medical marijuana, will protest against the Justice Department. They'll protest the recent raids in California against pot growers and marijuana dispensaries and those who use marijuana for medical purposes. So, that's one of the protests.

We're also keeping an eye on the IMF protests, which will happen later this week...

CALLAWAY: Right.

REDISCH: ... and we'll tell you more about that down the road.

CALLAWAY: All right, well, we'll be talking to you about that later this week.

Have a great day, Steve. I know it's going to be a busy one for you.
