KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Meanwhile, breaking news out of Los Angeles now. A huge jury award in a tobacco case.
This is what I can tell you: a jury awarded a record shattering $28 billion in punitive damages today to a former smoker who sued Philip Morris for fraud and negligence. I can tell you the superior court jury awarded the amount to Betty Bullock, 64 years old of Newport Beach, California, who started to smoke when she was 17- years-old and was diagnosed last year with lung cancer and that has since spread to her liver.

Last month, the jury had ordered the tobacco company to pay her $750,000 in economic damages and $100,000 for pain and suffering.
