CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Good evening. I'm Carol Lin at the CNN center in Atlanta. We've just been monitoring a news conference by police in Rockville, Maryland regarding the madman sniper that they have been hunting down for the past several days. Police have just confirmed that a Spotsylvania County woman -- I believe that's in Virginia -- was indeed another victim. She was shot by the same high- powered rifle that killed four other people this past week alone in Fredricksburg, Maryland (sic), as well as the Washington, D.C. area.
So police have indeed confirmed that. They are also just giving us information about a man who was reported missing by his wife last Monday, a man who does own a high-powered rifle that matches the description of the one used in these shootings. They have located that man. That man is in custody tonight. He is there for questioning, and is being held on an auto theft warrant out of the state of Florida, but police continue to say that this man is not a suspect, that they haven't been able to locate the weapon itself. This is what police had to say just a short time ago.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CHIEF CHARLES MOOSE, MONTGOMERY COUNTY POLICE: First, that Virginia case, Spotsylvania County case, forensic evidence has shown us that their case, their shooting is linked to the Montgomery County shooting, linked to the D.C. shooting. At this point, I want to introduce to you again Major Howard Smith (ph).

MAJOR HOWARD SMITH (ph): As you're aware, yesterday afternoon, at 2:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Michael's in front of the Spotsylvania Mall, on Route 3 just off of 95, we had a 43-year-old female who was shot in the lower right back, and the bullet passed through and exited the left breast area. She is in stable condition tonight.

This afternoon, about 6:00 p.m., we've received a call from ATF, from where we had sent all that forensic evidence that we've collected yesterday at the scene. They called us tonight and told us that the round that we collected there is, in fact, a match to the rounds that were used here in Maryland, and also in D.C.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

LIN: So the sniper that police are hunting for around the District of Columbia area is still on the loose, and apparently still targeting innocent people. We're going to have much more in a live report, as well as analysis, on the FBI profiling of this suspect coming up on our big show at 10:00 Eastern at the top of the hour.
