CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: One of the nation's few women serial killers is scheduled to die a few hours from now by lethal injection.
Reporter Lori Aragon of affiliate WTLV is in Starke, Florida with the story -- good morning.

LORI ARAGON, WTLV-TV REPORTER: Good morning, Carol.

You're right, just in about -- in about four hours, Aileen Wuornos, serial killer, is scheduled to die by lethal injection here at Florida's state prison. We understand from prison officials that she made no special requests last night, that she had a traditional southern meal which consisted of barbecued chicken, mashed potatoes, tomato slices, apple crisp and of course, ice tea.

Now Wuornos lost two efforts to stop her execution based on her mental competency. Several tests made in her defense indicate she suffers from a profound mental illness. Another indicated she has a borderline personality disorder. But in the end, Florida Governor Jeb Bush signed off on the lethal injection. Even Wuornos had stopped her appeals. Those in favor claimed Wuornos said she would kill again if given the opportunity.

Now the lethal injection will be given to Wuornos at around 9:30 this morning. We understand that she will be given the opportunity to make a last statement. And one of the prison officials told me that she's been very talkative and that she did -- was able to visit with a family friend last night. No word on who that friend was yet.

We're live in -- near Starke, Florida. I'm Lori Aragon -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Lori, do you know what witnesses will be inside -- well I guess outside of the execution room?

ARAGON: We know that there will be 24 witnesses, 12 media representatives and 12 also witnesses from the victim's family as well as state officials.

COSTELLO: All right, Lori Aragon, reporting live from Starke, Florida, thank you.
