BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Let's head down to Woodbridge right now and Patty Davis, to find out what she is discovering based on police briefings down there and what they're saying right is dozens, literally dozens of investigators right now have responded to that service station in Manassas.
Patty, good morning again to you.

PATTY DAVIS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Bill.

The man who was shot and killed last night as he pumped gas at a Sunoco station in Manassas, Virginia has been identified as 53-year- old Dean Harold Meyers of Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Now Myers just finished pumping gas, we're told, last night around 8:15 p.m. when he was shot. A witness reported hearing a single shot. Police now on the lookout for what one witness describes as a white Dodge caravan, a panel van, witnesses say, just windows in the front, no windows on the side is what they saw. Prince William County Police say though they still do not know if this work is -- if this murder is now the work of this same sniper.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SGT. KIM CHINN, PRINCE WILLIAM CO. POLICE: We still have officers at the scene, searching for evidence, going over it very meticulously. We have no information from the medical examiners yet. We do not know if this case is related to the cases in Maryland yet. However, we are sharing the 800 hotline number to keep information consistent.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

DAVIS: Police do continue to comb through that area around that Sunoco station for bits of evidence. An autopsy, we're told by police, planned to be performed on Mr. Meyers' body this morning.

State police say that witnesses saw the white van headed to busy Route 66. Authorities immediately closed ramps there, trying to find that van. They stopped ,they said, a lot of white vans there in that vicinity, came up with nothing as they searched for the killers. No one yet has been able to turn up a license plate on this van. So they remain, basically, where they were at this point, or if they are further, they're not telling us so far -- Bill.

HEMMER: Patty, thank you. Patty Davis on the scene in Woodbridge, Virginia. TO ORDER A VIDEO OF THIS TRANSCRIPT, PLEASE CALL 800-CNN-NEWS OR USE OUR SECURE ONLINE ORDER FORM LOCATED AT www.fdch.com
