DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Right now we move on to Philadelphia. That is where accused killer Ira Einhorn is expected to take the stand at some point as the defense begins presenting its case in his murder trial.
Einhorn is accused of killing his girlfriend -- his ex-girlfriend back in 1977.

Our Jason Carroll is in Philly with an update on the trial.

Jason -- good morning.

JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: And good morning to you, Daryn.

Ira Einhorn is expected to take the stand, possibly late today. More likely, it will be sometime early tomorrow.

As you said, Einhorn is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Holly Maddux, back in 1977, and then stuffing her body in a trunk, and then storing it in the apartment they once shared, all because she tried to end their relationship.

Einhorn claims he was framed for the murder by the CIA, because he had some sort of information about some sort of a secret mind control weapon that the CIA was apparently testing.

The defense has called several witnesses so far, who claim they saw Holly Maddux several months after she was reported missing. The defense has also called forensic experts, who say that it is not possible that Maddux's body fully decomposed in that trunk, suggesting that possibly she was killed someplace else.

This morning, we had the opportunity to speak to the assistant district attorney, Joel Rosen. We asked him what he thought about the defense's case so far.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOEL ROSEN, PROSECUTOR: So far, pretty weak, I think, but we'll see.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CARROLL: The prosecution has already wrapped up its side of the case. They have called several of Maddux's family members, including also some of her former friends, who testified that Ira Einhorn was abusive.

They also called one of Einhorn's former girlfriends, who testified that when she tried to break up with Ira Einhorn, he hit her over the head with a coke bottle, and then tried to strangle her. Defense attorney William Cannon called her testimony -- quote -- "devastating" -- Daryn.

KAGAN: Was that same woman who's being called a psychic, just to make this case even stranger?

CARROLL: It is a rather strange case. That is a different woman.

(CROSSTALK)

KAGAN: Oh, a different girlfriend.

CARROLL: A different person, right. The psychic that you're talking about is a woman who says that Ira Einhorn tried to find Holly Maddux by calling her and asking her to use some of her psychic abilities to try and locate exactly where she was.

KAGAN: All right. Well, it will be very interesting to hear Ira Einhorn take the stand in his own defense.

Jason Carroll in a rainy Philadelphia, thank you very much for that.
