CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Police this morning are, of course, working with new tips they hope will lead to the capture of the Washington-area sniper.
Authorities say they got many calls, and I mean many calls, after releasing a composite picture of a white box truck that was seen near one of the shooting scenes. The shooter last struck on Friday, killing a man at a gas station in Virginia.

For the latest on the investigation, we want to join our Jeanne Meserve. She is live in Montgomery County from the command center there.

Good morning -- Jeanne.

JEANNE MESERVE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

It was one week ago that a 13-year-old boy was gunned down on his way to school, after a weekend with no sniper activity. Will that pattern repeat itself this week? The folks in charge of this investigation won't hazard a guess, but needless to say, security in the region is extraordinarily tight.

As you mentioned, they did release that composite over the weekend of an older white truck, lettering on the side, damage to the right rear, asking anybody who had seen it or might have worked on it to call in.

We are expecting a second composite of a white Astro Chevy van of the sort seen in the vicinity of the Spotsylvania shooting on Friday. There, a 53-year-old man, father of six, was gunned down. No idea of when we will see that next composite rendition.

Now, CNN has learned that early last week, investigators went to the Army and Navy, and asked them to check their records for any current or recently-discharged personnel who might have sniper-related training. According to a senior Army official, no names turned up, and there are currently no military-related suspects.

Carol -- back to you.

COSTELLO: All right, thanks for the update. Jeanne Meserve reporting live from Montgomery County.
