CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It is now time for the Talk of CNN, where we find out what people across the country are talking about. The hottest topic, the D.C. sniper, who is causing fear across the country now.
We want to check in with Star 93.7, the morning show of radio station WQSX in Boston.

Good morning.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Hey, Carol, good morning. How are you?

COSTELLO: I'm fine.

So is there a sense of fear there because of this D.C. sniper?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think after the news that broke today, I think the fear has really reached up here, up in New England.

COSTELLO: Why?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It was just watching it on the news and then all of a sudden we were watching it, and last night at a Home Depot, which I was at Home Depot last night with my wife.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Right.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This poor woman was loading packages and she's the latest victim, if they prove it, of this sniper. It's actually, it's very, very scary.

COSTELLO: So do people think that the sniper may move your way?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don't know if it's maybe move here, but maybe some wacko might start doing copycat things.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Right.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It's, I'm very, very scared over what's the news tonight.

COSTELLO: Have there been, has anything come out of local police departments there? Anything to quiet the fear?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Not really, Carol. But I think everyone right now just has to be aware of their surroundings. I think people are going to maybe not go out as much at night. Maybe that won't help. But I think everyone has to be aware at this point.

COSTELLO: Yes, you know, it always makes me wonder because every time I see like a white van type vehicle here in Atlanta, it makes me pause.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Sure.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You know, I didn't realize how many white vans and how many white box trucks there were on the road till they started showing you these are the trucks and how many up here. They're all over the place.

COSTELLO: It's just awful.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This one is scary. I mean not that any one is worse, but it was just like all of a sudden oh my god.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And when you hear about a Home Depot, it just seems to relatable. We all go to Home Depot. It could have been anybody. And it was.

COSTELLO: Yes, and the saddest thing about this, well, one of the saddest things is the woman's husband was standing near her and they were loading the things they had just purchased at the Home Depot in the car.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It, I didn't really think that it was going to totally hit home and then I got up this morning to get ready for work and I was checking cnn.com for headlines and all of a sudden boom! It was like oh my god, not again.

COSTELLO: Yes.

Well, you guys stay safe up there and thanks for joining us on DAYBREAK this morning.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Thanks a lot, Carol.

So long.

COSTELLO: Bye.
